Netgear is planning to ship their new R6300 router next month for an estimated retail price of $199. This is their next generation WiFi system with 802.11AC technology, which is said to be 3 times faster than the current 802.11N standard. Needless to say, 802.11AC will be backwards compatible with 802.11B/G/N. This will be the first router of its kind on the market, and it is being dubbed pre-standardization. Which either means it is destined for greatness… or destined to fail. In other words, the 802.11AC standard has not been finalized yet. This is Netgear’s opinion of what the standard will be. Linksys, DLink, and others will likely follow with pre-standardization routers of their own.
