Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger are former Standford students who started an HTML5 check-in application dedicated to photography. The app, Instagram, has since graduated to its current incarnation, made available in October 2010. Using various effects and borders, Instagram users are able to create stunning photography with a single touch. With the backing of some venture capitalists, Systrom and Kreiger were able to raise over $500 million and make Instagram a howling success. What started out as an iOS app, later came to Android (in April of 2012), and has since brought even more users to Instagram. In April of this year, Systrom and Kreiger sold Instagram to Facebook for 1 Billion dollars. Systrom is rumored to have made $400 million of that amount. Wow!
