Cisco: IP Traffic Will Grow 29% Per Year Through 2016

About a year ago, Cisco made a prediction that wireless networks will exceed wired networks by 2015. Now the networking giant has another batch of mind boggling statistics. They claim IP traffic will grow 29% each year, now through the end of 2016. Cisco bases this prediction on a strong demand for streaming audio/video and the prevalence of Internet-accessing mobile devices. To put that in perspective, 2011 statistics show a consumption of 31 exabytes per month. If these statistics are correct, that number will be 110 exabytes per month in 2016. Yikes!
