Windows 8.1 Market Share Surpasses Windows 8

Windows 8 was released in October of 2012, Windows 8.1 was released late last year. Despite a really slow start, the operating system reportedly reached 10% market share earlier this year. Now more statistics are emerging that show Windows 8 is still growing. However, the statistics also show that Windows 8.1 has surpassed Windows 8. The figures indicate Microsoft’s latest has a 6.35% market share. This narrowly edges out Windows 8 with 6.29%. Windows 7 still holds a commanding lead with 50.06% and Windows Vista is dying with a mere 2.9%. All in all, Microsoft Windows makes up 90.99% of the OS market. Interestingly enough, 2001’s Windows XP still claims over 25% of the market. Wow!
