Hewlett Packard (HP) kicked off their annual Discover conference yesterday in Las Vegas, Nevada. CEO Meg Whitman took the stage and revealed plans for the HP Machine. Literally. Whitman talked about a new HP modular computing platform currently known as “The Machine.” This super efficient system includes a new Linux-based OS that will limit the company’s reliance on Microsoft Windows. In fact, it will make them a direct competitor to Microsoft. For the past several decades, HP has installed Windows on the majority of their desktop and server systems. Interestingly enough, shortly after this announcement, Whitman brought Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on stage to discuss their working relationship.
