NASA recently announced they will award contracts to both Boeing and SpaceX. The two contracts total $6.8 Billion collectively with $4.2 Billion going to Boeing and $2.6 Billion to SpaceX. These contracts are intended to give the US a way to get astronauts on and off the International Space Station (ISS). The US has been without a manned space vehicle since the decommission of the space shuttle program in 2011. Boeing showed off the CST-100, commonly called the space taxi, earlier this year in an attempt to create buzz. Meanwhile, SpaceX has already completed 3 resupply missions to ISS. Analysts were wondering which company would strike a deal with NASA. It turns out both of them received contracts. The first manned US launch to ISS is currently scheduled for 2017.
