Drag Queens Battle Facebook Policies

Drag Queens Battle Facebook Policies

As we roll into the weekend, here’s some odd news to kick off your Friday. A group of drag queens is publicly opposing social networking giant Facebook. The reason… they do not want to comply to the site’s “real name” policy. Facebook’s policy states all users must use their real name on their profile. Performers, such as drag queens, often use their stage names and Facebook thinks this is unacceptable. The drag queens argue that using their real names could be considered an invasion of privacy. They feel Facebook must change this policy to protect victims of abuse, transgendered persons, and other performers who use fake names. The social network has been steadily deleting profiles that do not comply and has declined to change its policy despite the public opposition.
