London Turns Old Phone Booths Into Solar Chargers

As cellular phones have become more popular, pay phones has all but disappeared from metropolitan streets. The city of New York started turning phone booths into “smart screens” back in 2012 and many other cities have followed with similar projects. Now the city of London is doing something creative with the city’s iconic red phone booths. Several of them have already been converted into Solar Boxes with more conversions planned next year. So what is a Solar Box? Its a re-purposed phone booth with a solar panel on top and charging outlets inside. Essentially, if your battery is running low, you can stop and charge your mobile devices in the Solar Box. To set them apart from the standard phone booths, Solar Boxes are painted green.
