Windows 10 Will Have 7 Editions

Throughout 2015, the IT industry has anxiously awaiting the next operating system from Microsoft, Windows 10. While the software maker has been sketchy about the date, it’s clear the OS will arrive later this year. They’ve also been a little vague on the licensing model. However, today the company revealed Windows 10 will ship with 7 different editions (shown below).

  • Windows 10 Home – designed for consumer computing systems
  • Windows 10 Pro – designed for business computing systems
  • Windows 10 Enterprise – designed for business computing systems on an enterprise scale
  • Windows 10 Education – designed for computing systems in educational institutions
  • Windows 10 Mobile – designed for smartphones and tablets
  • Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise – designed for smartphones and tablets in the enterprise environment
  • Windows 10 IoT Core – designed for “the Internet of Things” or lightweight gateway devices

When Microsoft previewed Windows 10 last October, they stressed the “one OS and one app store across all devices” concept. Alas, it looks like it will be seven operating systems across all devices. They all start with the words Windows 10 though… that’s progress. icon wink Windows 10 Will Have 7 Editions
