New Android Exploit Affects 950 Million Handsets

A new Android exploit, known as Stagefright, allows an attacker to gain access to a user’s smartphone with just a single text message. Full details have not been released, but the vulnerability exists on all versions of the Android operating system starting with v2.2. Experts estimate the population of hackable phones is around 950,000,000. Yikes!

The alarming thing about this hack is the fact that the phone’s owner does not have to do anything to be victimized. A handset can be exploited by simply receiving a malicious text message. The full details of the vulnerability will be demonstrated next month at Black Hat 2015. Needless to say, there will probably be a barrage of Android patches coming in August. icon wink New Android Exploit Affects 950 Million Handsets
