NASA Wants To Ram A Spacecraft Into An Asteroid

The threat of an asteroid smashing into the Earth has long been a threat to our planet. Now, NASA has a plan to fly a spacecraft directly into an asteroid to see how much force it takes to destroy one (or knock it off course). Now, before you go thinking you’re watching a sci-fi film from the late 90’s, let’s mention this is actually a serious project. The ESA (European Space Agency) will send a satellite to monitor an asteroid, then NASA will shoot an unmanned craft directly into the asteroid. The satellite will record data to determine exactly what happens before, during, and after the impact. The crazy plan is scheduled for completion in 2022.
