Geek Of The Week: Tony Rolando

Continuing with my string of famous synthesizer makers (like¬†Dieter Doepfer, Dave Smith,¬†Bob Moog, and the late Don Buchla), we add Tony Rolando to the list this week. Rolando is the creator of Make Noise Music, a company that produces modular synthesizers. Shown above with former GOTW Richard Devine, Rolando is a well respected figure in the electronic music community. One of the most amazing things about this GOTW is that he taught himself the principals of electronics and musical synthesizers. He was obsessed with radios as a child and through tons of reading, figured out how stuff works. He also had an interest in music and played in several bands. Rolando spent 3 years living by himself on a mountain top and when he came down, he started Make Noise Music… or so the story goes. In any case, this GOTW makes some amazing products and I had the chance to talk to him personally at Knobcon a few weeks ago. He is a very approachable guy.
