Verizon To ‘Brick’ Remaining Note 7 Handsets In 2017

Back in September, Samsung issued a recall on Galaxy Note 7 handsets after a defect caused several to catch fire. Since then there’s been a ton of press about this topic, including the FAA banning the phone on airplanes. Now Verizon has announced they’ll begin “crippling” the recalled handsets in January to ensure 100% of the smartphones are returned. The software update will be pushed out in January and it will disable the majority of the phone’s functionality turning it into a fancy brick. This should force any remaining phones to be taken in for service and consequently recalled.
