Amazon To Build Floating Warehouses For Drones?

Most of us remember when Amazon unveiled their Prime Air concept in 2013. While most of us thought this wouldn’t come to fruition for several decades, the company completed it’s first drone-based delivery earlier this month. The entire process from placing the order to delivery took a mere 13 minutes.

Now the company has filed a patent for the Airborne Fulfillment Center (AFC). It appears the AFC is a blimp with an attached drone garage. It would hover over a metro area and drop the deliveries drones. Think of it as a big floating warehouse. Delivery drones could dock and the AFC and charge while not in use, so they’re only using their power for deliveries. Resupply blimps could be used to move inventory on/off the AFC along with more drones.
