New Lip Sync Software Works So Good It’s Scary

Researchers at the University of Washington have developed a software program that can actually take a video clip of a person talking and sync the lips to an alternate audio track. It’s pretty crazy! Professor Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman, shown above with the software, managed to analyze hours of former president Obama’s speeches, then reached a point where the software could play back the audio of one speech through the video of another. The lips were perfectly synced. While this is technologically amazing, it’s also somewhat scary. There will come a day when we can’t trust video clips.
