Survey: Average US Household Owns 2.6 Apple Products

Think back to the mid-1990’s. Apple was a small electronics firm and only about 3% of Americans owned an Apple computer. With the release of the iMac in 1998, things started to change. 2001’s iPod would catapult Apple into mainstream electronics. Then 2005’s transition from PowerPC to Intel chips made Apple a serious competitor in the PC market. Finally, 2007’s iPhone turned the company into a household name and 2010’s iPad cemented the status. Yes, Apple has come a long way in the last 20 years… but just how far?

A recent study shows that 64% of Americans own an Apple product and the average US household contains 2.6 Apple devices. Just one year ago, the same study found that only 50% of Americans owned a product made by Apple. Coincidentally, 87% of households with incomes over $100,000 reported ownership of at least 1 Apple product. Furthermore, the wealthiest Americans were found to own 4.7 Apple products on average. It does seem that Apple products are a rich luxury to some extent, but at an average of 2.6 per household, they’ve thoroughly permeated the American marketplace.
