Microsoft Will End Free Upgrade “Loophole” At EOY

When Windows 10 was released in July of 2015, Microsoft offered free upgrades to help with the adoption rate. They discontinued this program in July of last year, but there was a loophole. Customers who used certain features of Windows 7 or 8 were offered an free upgrade option via a splash screen similar to the one shown above. However, Microsoft had no way of knowing if you actually used these options, so any user can potentially still upgrade their operating system for free. Microsoft will end this promotion at the end of the year, so if you want to take advantage of the loophole, do it now. Starting next year, all users will have to pay to upgrade.
