Intel just released their Xeon D-2100 line of processors. These chips feature 4 to 18 cores and are well suited for edge computing. What is edge computing you ask. That’s a good question as the industry is still trying to define it. Essetnially, it refers to data-intensive applications that require local processing before being sent to a major data center. In other words, the future may consist of several small data centers that report to a larger centralized data center with certain tasks being done at each facility. This kind of archtiture is still in infancy, but these CPUs are intended to be used in environments where heat, space, and power consumption are paramount.
