18 States Support Your Right To Repair Your Devices

California, Washington, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia are all backing consumer’s rights to repair their own electronic devices. The right to repair act, as it’s being dubbed, forces device manufacturers to make manuals and parts available to the general public. Major manufacturers like Apple and Microsoft have opposed this legislation stating it is dangerous to the consumer. The states argue that the current business model forces consumers to upgrade their devices every few years, which is not only expensive but also wasteful.
