Geek Of The Week: L3-37

If you haven’t seen Solo: A Star Wars Story yet, you might want to get to a theater to watch it. While the movie has not done well at the box office, it is full of Star Wars references and tells some important parts of Han Solo’s past. Solo’s ship, the Millennium Falcon, is known to have one of the best navigational computers in the Star Wars universe. This movie explains how the computer got that information. This week’s geek, L3-37, is the reason.

L3-37 was a piloting droid built by Lando Calrissian. She was made of parts from astromech droids with a brain from espionage and protocol droids. L3-37 was a strong advocate of droid rights and was shot during a battle on a planet where droids were used as slave labor. After being badly damaged, her brain was uploaded to the Millennium Falcon and she fused with the ship’s navigational computer. It was L3-37’s programming and database that allowed the ship to make the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs.
