Are Smartphones Good Or Bad For Us?

Are Smartphones Good Or Bad For Us?

I recently came across this article on Business Insider. The author makes some good points as she spells out 12 reasons your smartphone could be negatively affecting your life. While these iconic devices have brought us a lot of new opportunities, they’ve also brought a new crop of problems. She lists these 12 possible side effects:

  • Smartphones contribute to sleep issues
  • They can ruin romantic relationships
  • They can take a tool on friendships
  • They can have a negative influence on parenting
  • They’re replacing in-person communication and conflict
  • People expect us to be online and connected to our phones at all times
  • Some people base their self-worth on social media likes
  • Smartphones encourage fear of missing out
  • Studies show reading on a smartphone is worse for learning and comprehension
  • People are forgetting how to date and make friends in real life
  • Some research says smartphones are not great for our brains
  • They may not be good for our mental health
You can read the full article HERE. While I don’t necessarily agree with everything she says, she makes some great points and it’s a really good read. Undoubtedly, the smartphone has changed human interaction in a number of ways, and not all of them are good.
