Last month, IBM and the US Department of Energy (DoE) unveiled a new supercomputer called Summit. It is housed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. The massive cluster features 4608 servers with IBM Power9 CPUs. The total memory capacity is just over 10 petabytes. The overall processing capability is estimated at around 200 petaflops. More recently, this supercomputer was named the fastest in the world, beating out China who formerly held the #1 spot. The last time the US held the #1 spot was in 2012.
