USB Type-C Adds Authentication Framework

USB Type-C seems to be the connector of the future for mobile devices. Most newer smartphones and laptops support it. In the wake of this, an authentication framework has just been released by the USB-IF (Implementers Forum). The solution will include a standard authentication protocol for chargers, devices, cables, and power sources. This will prevent malware from being loaded by rogue devices masquerading as charging stations or peripherals. The authentication will be cryptographic in nature utilizing public/private key pairs and digital signing.
