Samsung Pushes 8K Into The Mainstream

Samsung revealed their first 8K TV last year. Now they want everyone to start making them. The company recently announced a new IC that will help bring 8K technology to the masses. The chip supports 4 Gbps bandwidth that will allow 8K images to be rendered to the display panel. Additionally, it does away with most of the “traditional” electronics so bezels may not be needed. Normally, manufacturers hide the additional electronics behind the bezel.

While all this is great news, Samsung hasn’t solved the content issue yet. 8K content needs approximately 4 times as much data as 4K so chances are nobody will be steaming at this resolution any time soon.
