Geek Of The Week: Muffwiggler Mike

Mike McGrath brought together his love of computers and synthesizers in 2006 when he started the website www.MuffWiggler.com. The Canadian discussion site became one of the world’s largest forums for synthesizer fans. It’s a community of information for musicians, manufacturers, hobbyists, and DIY enthusiasts. Ask anyone in this community and they’ll tell you MuffWiggler changed a lot about the industry and continues to do so.

McGrath took the name MuffWiggler from two of his favorite effects pedals (Electronharmonix Big Muff and The Wiggler). He thought it was funny and never really expected it to catch on. Needless to say, it did, McGrath became known as Muffwiggler Mike. Those who knew him best say you’d be hard pressed to find a kinder gentler soul anywhere. Alas, Mike McGrath passed away in April of this year. A thread on his website showcases 36 pages of appreciation for his contributions from members of the MuffWiggler community. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on for generations of synthesizer geeks. RIP Mike.
