Geek Of The Week: Chirrut Îmwe

I watched Rogue One: A Star Wars Story over the weekend and again realized how much I like that movie. It’s a great story of a group of misfits who battle the odds to bring hope to the galaxy. Among the group are rebels: Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, K2SO (former GOTW), Bodhi Rook, Baze Malbus, and this week’s GOTW, Chirrut Îmwe. He was a member of the Guardians of the Whills, a group of monks who protect the Kyber Temple on Jedha. The Whills are separate from the Jedi, but also study the ways of the Force. Where the Jedi believe in the light side and dark side, the Whills believe in being one with the Force. Thus Chirrut’s repeated line, “I am one with the Force, the Force is with me.” Îmwe is blind but can “see” by using the Force. He saves Jyn and Cassian on Jedha and then plays a role in getting the Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance.
