Mario Kart Home Circuit Brings Races To Your Living Room

Nintendo’s latest product brings augmented reality (AR) to Mario Kart with new remote controlled cars. The $99 Mario Kart Live Home Circuit kit includes a remote control car and 4 sets of arches (shown below). It comes in Mario (red) and Luigi (green) versions. The Nintendo Switch controllers and screens can be paired to cars to control their movements and bring a “mixed reality” experience to gamers.

To use it set up a Mario Kart course in your home, simply place the 4 arches and then “drive” the route you want with the remote controlled car. The system will store the path you took and that becomes the track. From there, you play it just like traditional Mario Kart but the cars are zipping around your living room under tables/chairs, and through the cardboard arches. Each car has a built-in camera that brings images of your living room to the game. It’s a cool idea for sure!
