Geek Of The Week: Boba Fett

The new season of The Mandalorian is broadcasting on Disney+. The first episode came out this past Friday and paid homage to a fan favorite character from the original trilogy, Boba Fett. Star Wars Episode II introduced us to Jango Fett, who was the template for all the Republic’s clone troopers. As payment for being cloned, Jango Fett requested a completely unaltered clone he could raise as a son. He named the child Boba and they lived together on Kamino. Jango, an excommunicated Mandalorian, trained Boba in the ways of combat, weaponry, and space travel. Boba became an orphan when his father was killed by Jedi Master Mace Windu on the planet of Geonosis.

After Jango Fett’s death, Boba grew up in the company of bounty hunters and criminals. He attempted to murder Mace Windu for killing his father, but was unsuccessful and ended up in prison for a short period of time. After being released, Boba went to work as a bounty hunter and earned a reputation throughout the galaxy. He was employed by multiple crime syndicates as well as the Galactic Empire. Star Wars Episode VI showed Boba fall into the sarlacc pit during the battle that allowed Luke Skywalker and Han Solo to escape execution by Jabba the Hut. He was presumed dead, but the latest season of The Mandalorian gives us hope that Boba Fett may still be alive. The next episode airs this Friday.
