Latest Stats Show Windows XP Below 50% Marketshare

After all the news about Windows 7 being the most popular OS in the US and Windows XP still being #1 in corporations, recent statistics show something interesting. NetMarketShare.com recently released the OS market share statistics, and it turns out Windows XP recently fell below 50% (49.69% to be exact). After ten years of leading the pack, it appears that this OS is officially (and finally) dying. Windows 7 is a strong second with 27.92%. The horrible mess that is (was) Windows Vista claims the #3 spot with 9.27%, and Apple’s flagship Mac OS X 10.6 takes forth place with 3.76%. The iPhone rounds out the top five sporting 1.57%.

It is interesting to note that Linux has a mere .91% and Android 2.2 is the next closest with .45%. Windows 2000 and Windows 98 (long since unsupported by Microsoft) have still managed to hold on to .16% and .06% respectively.
