HP Releasing More Ultrabooks & Dropping Prices

The ultrabook craze is definitely upon us. Since the CES expo this past January, several hardware manufacturers have released new smaller lightweight laptop computers. Intel even made an announcement about all the ultrabooks in the pipeline. Everyone appears to be targeting potential MacBook Air customers. HP already has several ultrabooks on the market, but now they’re lowering the prices to be even more competitive. For instance, HP’s Folio 13 is currently selling for $798 at Best Buy. This ultrabook is no slouch either. It comes equipped with a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, a 13″ LCD display, 4 GB of RAM, and a 128 GB SSD. HP also announced several new ultrabooks this week, including the all new Envy Spectre XT (shown above), some starting as low as $749.

One thing is clear, HP is aggressively targeting Apple, and with these prices… they may be somewhat successful. That does raise and interesting question though. Can MacBook Air shoppers be persuaded to buy a Windows box based solely on price? What do you think?
