Sally Ride: 1951 – 2012

NASA’s first woman in space, Sally Ride, died yesterday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In 1983, Ride and 5 other astronauts blasted into space aboard the space shuttle Challenger. They made history that day as she became the first American female to leave Earth’s atmosphere. Upon her return, Ride continued her work as a physicist, and authored several children’s book. She was 61.

Geek Trio send our best wishes to the friends and family of Sally Ride as they mourn the loss of someone very special. Her contributions to space travel and science will live on to inspire future generations.
