Facebook Home Arrives

Social media empire Facebook unveiled Facebook Home earlier this week. For the last few years, there has been scuttlebutt of a Facebook-branded smartphone coming soon. Well it turns out these rumor were true… kinda. It is not really a handset, but an add-on for the Android operating system. Facebook Home replaces Android’s current home screen with a new one that brings Facebook’s features to the forefront on your mobile phone.

The social media giant is partnering with HTC and AT&T to sell a $99 device which comes with Facebook Home pre-loaded. This phone is available for pre-order today and is expected to arrive on April 12. Facebook is also making the software available as an upgrade to several (but not all) existing Android devices. The list of compatible devices includes: HTC One X, HTC One X+, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy X3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4. The software download will also be available on April 12.

While this idea may appeal to certain users who spend most of their time on Facebook, it also presents a host of privacy concerns. Do you really want Facebook having access to every aspect of your phone?
