Courts Say “No!” To Aereo

Aereo was founded in 2012. The unique technology allowed the providers to capture live broadcast TV signals using banks of antennas (shown above). Then people could subscribe to Aereo’s service and view the streaming content through a web browser or mobile app. Since Aereo was not tapping into any non-public feeds, they did not face any licensing issues… or so they thought. There has been a pending lawsuit that went to court today. The courted ruled against Aereo. Essentially, they felt the company cannot charge for something that is provided for free to the public. Opinions are mixed, but it definitely sets a precedent for other similar services.
