BlackBerry Unveils Passport Smartphone

BlackBerry has been struggling to keep up with iOS and Android. Although their future has seemed uncertain, the firm appointed a new CEO in 2013 and stockholders have been hopeful. Today, the company unveiled a new smartphone called the Passport. Unlike most of the recent smartphones, this one is very square in appearance. BlackBerry claims this design is more functional for doing things like writing and entering data in spreadsheets. In addition to the 4.5″ square screen, the handset has a small tactile keyboard across the bottom. The Passport is available for pre-order starting today. So far, AT&T is the only carrier, but Verizon and Sprint are expected to follow.
