Facebook Unveils Rooms App

Earlier this month, we heard rumors of Facebook creating a new app to permit user anonymity. This came to fruition this week with the release of Rooms. The new app allows users to create “rooms” about certain topics. Then other users from all the world can enter the room and post under a pseudonym without geo-location. Essentially, it’s like the Internet bulletin boards and IRC chat rooms from the mid-90s. Facebook claims this will allow users to “break away from the constraints of our everyday selves”, and connect with people that have similar interests. Are they serious?
