IBM & Nvidia Developing 2 Supercomputers for DOE

The US Department of Energy recently awarded a $325 Million supercomputer project to IBM. The resulting computers will be more than twice as fast the current supercomputer champ, China’s Milky Way 2. IBM and Nvidia will collaborate on the project and build two ultra-fast supercomputers called Sierra and Summit. The former will be housed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, while the latter will reside at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Both systems will be available to the public and scientific sectors. One thing is for sure… these machines should be very impressive.
