Raspberry Pi 2 Released

The popular Raspberry Pi Model B received some updates this week. This is the third incarnation of the PC. The original Raspberry Pi Model B arrived about three years ago and the Model B+ made it’s debut last year. Following the evolution, this tiny computing system, dubbed the Raspberry Pi 2, now sports a 900 MHz quad-core processor where the Model B+ featured a 700 MHz dual-core processor. The memory was also doubled from 512 MB to 1 GB. The size, shape, and cost of the system did not change.

Since the inception of the device, all models have shipped with Raspberry Pi’s own distribution of Linux. However, a surprise announcement was made shortly after the introduction of the unit. Microsoft announced Windows 10 will be a free download for Raspberry Pi users. The software giant revealed many of Windows 10’s details last month. Among them was a free upgrade period for users of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. This is very interesting that they’re extending the free upgrade path to Raspberry Pi users.
