Ashley Madison Fallout Continues

Ashley Madison Fallout Continues

Last month, we reported on a data breach that affected Ashley Madison customers. The dating website is used mostly by married men and women who want to have extramarital affairs. Recently, the hackers posted the data online and the fallout has been severe. There have already been reports of related suicides and several prominent figures who have admitted to having accounts. There have been some claims of the breach being an inside job, and other claims that Ashley Madison themselves hacked their competition, but not official details have been published. Most recently, a legal firm has filed a class action lawsuit against the website.

While it’s easy to think to oneself… “those cheaters deserve what they got.” This event should serve as a reminder for online privacy. If this kind of privacy exploit can happen, what… or who is next? And who will be affected? This story is a small piece of a much bigger issue.
