This week’s GOTW is one of my favorite performers, a personal artistic influence, and an all-around amazing musician. She has won a Grammy Award along with PLUG, Q, and ASCAP music awards. She’s recorded 5 studio albums as well as several EPs and singles. The absurdly beautiful and outrageously talented Annie Clark is known to her fans as St. Vincent.
I’m not really sure where to start with this entry because there’s an intense personal admiration of this week’s geek. For starters, Clark hails from Dallas, TX which is where I reside. She also has a signature guitar made by Ernie Ball that I absolutely love. The first time I saw it I thought to myself… I must own that someday. To top that off, her first professional music venture was with The Polyphonic Spree, a group I really enjoy. She played with singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens and noise rockers The Skull Fuckers early in her career, and I appreciate both. As if that’s not enough, her 2007 album Marry Me is one of my favorites of the last decade. To top that off, she released an album with David Byrne, who is one of my idols and a previous GOTW, in 2012. She also played with Nirvana, one of my favorite bands, during their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Put that all together and you’ve got one incredible performer.
Needless to say, this music geek has accomplished a lot and has a long career ahead of her. She is even trying her hand in the movies as the director of the horror film XX, which was released last month. Now St. Vincent can add GOTW to her long list of accomplishments.
