SpaceX Puts EchoStar 23 Satellite Into Orbit

Early this morning, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center. The rocket was carrying an EchoStar 23 communications satellite. Approximately 34 minutes after launch, the satellite was released from the rocket and continued to reach stable orbit under its own power. However, unlike previous launches, SpaceX did not attempt to recover the first stage of the rocket. They said the logistics of carrying the satellite prevented them from adding the steering fins and extra fuel to the primary launch vehicle. This does represent their last non-reusable rocket though. Going forward, the company plans to reuse primary launch stages.
