NYPD Ditches Windows Phones

As part of a 2014 strategy, the New York Police Department (NYPD) equipped their officers with 36,000 Windows-powered handsets. The idea was to give police unprecedented access to communication tools and police data while in the field. However, three years into the project, it appears the department is changing gears. The NYPD has started replacing all the Lumia phones with Apple iPhones. Reportedly, the Windows smartphones were underwhelming, unreliable, and have not helped the connect the department as the police chief had hoped.
