A New Mexico man is suing Microsoft for $600,000,000 after a Windows upgrade bricked his PC. Frank Dickman attempted to upgrade his Asus laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and was left with a computer that refused to boot. Unfortunately, there was no easy way to recover from the botched upgrade, so he lost all access to his data.
Dickman requested Microsoft provide an OEM copy of Windows 7 so he could restore the laptop and they refused to do this. This is the genesis of the lawsuit. This is not the first time Microsoft has been sued for a failed upgrade. Courts awarded Teri Goldstein $10,000 in damages for a similar case last year.
