Election Software To Go OpenSource?

With news surrounding foreign entities tampering with US elections looming on the horizon, the flaws of voting software are coming to light. Some analysts feel we should make these software packages open source allowing the community to remediate vulnerabilities. While the idea has merit, others feel this could lead to more problems then benefits. There are strong arguments both ways. What do you think?
