You’re Smarphone Is Spying On You… Kinda

A recent study conducted by Northeastern University found your smartphone is spying on you… with limitations. They claim they could not find any evidence to support the idea of smartphones listening to conversations in order to target advertising. Many privacy advocates have suspected this for quite some time. However, the study found instances where apps record and share screenshots with third parties. The researchers surveyed over 17,000 apps and found no instances of code that invoked the microphone. They did find evidence that GoPuff sent screen recordings to a mobile analytics firm called AppSee. This isn’t the only instance of it either.
