Beware Of The Fake Alexa Setup App

A bunch of geeks probably got an Amazon Echo or some other Alexa-enabled device for the holidays. Now everyone is setting them up to use the Internet. Well, its no surprise that there’s an app for that… kinda. If you go to the Apple App Store, you’ll see a free Setup for Amazon Alexa app, but it is not sanctioned by Amazon. Ironically, the app is #75 on the free apps list and #9 on the free utilities list giving it “street cred.” However, it appears to be a scam designed to gather user information. At the time of this writing, neither Apple or Amazon have made an attempt to remove it.
