Geek Of The Week: Justin Johnson

This week’s geek is nothing short of a guitar virtuoso. Justin Johnson is the founder of the Root Music School in Nashville, TN but he’s also a touring musician and session player. Guitar World magazine classified Johnson as a “must-see act”, and dubbed him “The Wizard” for his mastery of stringed instruments ranging from guitar to dobro to banjo to diddley bow. He’s a well known name in the roots instrument world.

Johnson has performed all over North America, as well as mainland Europe, the UK, Australia, and Tasmania. He has recorded 4 studio albums. His first was a double album on which he played 8 of the oldest cigar box guitars and banjos known to exist. These fragile root instruments had previously never been recorded. Needless to say, The Wizard is a serious music geek and now a GOTW.
