Intel & Cray Collaborating On New AI Supercomputer

IBM and the US Department of Energy (DoE) unveiled the world’s most powerful supercomputer, Summit, last year. Now, they’re working on a new project expected to complete in 2021. Intel and Cray are working with the DoE and building a new system, called Aurora, which will leave Summit in the digital dust. They’re predicting Aurora will be 7X faster! The computer’s main focus is to run artificial intelligence (AI) at unprecedented scales. Aurora will cost $500 million and will be housed at the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL.
