Is Instagram Becoming Facebook’s New Facebook?

Facebook has been losing popularity in the 12-34 age group. In fact, there are 15 million less US users today than there were in 2017. Many analysts cite the seemingly endless chain of outages, scandals, and privacy concerns for this trend. Regardless, as the user base declines, Facebook is in search new ways to market itself.

Meanwhile Instagram, which Facebook acquired in 2012, has largely stayed out of the media crosshairs and is growing year over year. New Instagram features unveiled at the F8 conference indicate some Facebook-like features are coming to the photo sharing app. It appears to be slowly morphing into a full social media platform. Will Instagram be Facebook’s new app? Is other words, is it the new Facebook?
