Recent trade restrictions between the US and Asia have created a rift between Huawei and Google. Most smartphones made by Huawei run Google’s Android operating system, but this is going to have to change. After Google initially announced they’d block Huawei’s access to the OS, the company’s share prices saw a drop. After some negotiating, Google decided to limit Huawei’s access to Android and give them time to transition off the platform. Huawei claims to be working on their own mobile operating system which may be ready later this year. There is disagreement over what this means for the longevity of existing Huawei handsets. Regardless, there’s been a strong increase in consumers trading in their Huawei devices.
