Geek(s) Of The Week: Gene & Dean Ween

Childhood friends Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman always had a knack for music. The two met in middle school and started a band almost immediately. They were both fans of The Ramones, so they decided to do similar pseudonyms. Melchiondo became Gene Ween and Freeman took the name Dean Ween. Needless to say, they founded the band Ween. Their eclectic music catalog includes funk, country, soul, R&B, punk, metal, and more. Despite never having much mainstream success, the band developed a cult-like following which is popular in many geek circles. They have released 9 studio albums and still tour occasionally.
